School stuff
One particularly interesting part of our conversation was a connection made by a member of our group of an event that happened in Junior High. The connection was made of a particular love triangle that was much like the love triangle in Eclipse. I remember this love triangle and could relate exceptionally well with this connection. One person in the love triangle was like Jacob and was quite persistant in wooing the female figure who was quite set on the other male figure. The Jacob figure pushed a little bit to hard and ended up broken hearted. One big difference is that the female figure did not end up with the other male figure. The love triangle stuck in my mind because of the things that I saw happen in Junior High.

Beautiful Thinking
Beautiful, gorgeous, pretty - things that we all want to be - to a point. Wouldn't it be awful if everyone was beautiful to the point of boring. In the book "Uglies" a world exists where eveyone is pretty which begs the question - should we strive so hard for beauty at the expense of our own individuality.
The book "Uglies" tells the story of a girl named Tally who lives in a town called uglyville. When a person turns sixteen they undergo and operation to make them drop dead gorgeous, also known as "Turning Pretty." The summer before Tally is to turn pretty, she meets a girl named Shay. After spending hte summer with Tally, Shay tells her of a place called "The Smoke" where people do not have the operation and do not turn pretty. A radical concept to Tally. Shay goes off to find the smoke but leaves coded directions for tally that told her how to get there. Tally still wanted to turn pretty mat at the hospital she was told that she had to bring shay back before she could turn pretty. After a long journey using Shay's directionis, Tally finds that people ware beautiful even if they haven't had surgery. She finds that it is important to be yourself and not what everyone else wants you to be.
Unfortunately, our world is closer to the world in "Uglies" than we think. Many people may read this book and think that they could never be so concieted as to undergo major surgery in an effort to be like everyone else. But that same person may go put on the most stylish clothes money can buy and go put no globs of make up just to look like everyone else. Many people believe that individuality is great but very few people ever try to be thier true selves.

Instant thoughts, just add water
Limestone and water...ingredients that can lead to potentially wonderful and dangerous things. It's not so bad at the beginning, you catch a fleeting thought about an subject or an idea that you haven't thought about in a long time and a little water runs over that thought of stone. As you think more and more about that idea, your thoughts become deeper gushing into the idea, creating a gorge. Some people don't have this ability; thier thoughts cannot go deeper into the ground, they simply skim atop the surface, never giving a deep thought to anything...or anyone. But the deep thinker ponders an idea and soon bores a huge space underground with just his thoughts, his simple water. He thinks deep and long and hard and eventually a cave, or better yet a cavern is formed by his thoughts that is deep and well rounded. The caverns are a scarry place to be, as are all men's minds, yet still they are also the most beautiful places immaginable. One of the best parts about the caverns is that the thoughts don't stop, the water is constantly flowing through them, sometimes expanding on old passageways and sometimes creating completely new ones. Now imagine, if you could pick through a man's thoughts; explore the cave; reach the end and find out what is at the heart of a man. Does it end at an underground lake, too big to see the end; does it end in a magestic pillar, showing how strong his heart is; does it end after a few feet of crawling through a small tunnel, so small that you have to crawl quickly out backwards; does it even go in at all, skimming the surface of everything, flowing across the surface of the earth, not changing anything, not going in deep on any idea. Ask yourself, will you dare to think deep? Will you dare to create a cave? A cavern? Will you even think at all?
